Grief and Bereavement Support
You Are Not Alone in Your Grief
Grief is the natural response to losing someone we love — but it can feel anything but natural. It can be isolating, confusing, and at times overwhelming. At Dundas County Hospice, we understand that every grief journey is different. We’re here to walk beside you with compassion, care, and a range of supportive options that meet you where you are.
Whether you need someone to talk to, a group to share with, or quiet guidance through the more difficult days, our Grief and Bereavement program is here for you — and it's made possible thanks to the generosity of our community and donors like you.
How We Can Support You:
- Personalized Support from Caring Staff
Our staff are available to speak with you by phone or in person. They’ll take time to understand your unique circumstances and help develop a personalized support plan to help you navigate your grief — at your own pace and in your own way.
- Trained Volunteer Companionship
Our compassionate grief support volunteers are specially trained to walk alongside individuals who are grieving. They offer gentle, non-judgmental companionship through phone calls or in-person visits — someone to talk to, to share memories with, or simply to sit in quiet company on hard days.
- Monthly Grief & Bereavement Support Group
This welcoming, confidential group provides a safe space to connect with others who have experienced loss. Led by our trained facilitators, group sessions offer a chance to share your feelings, listen to others, and find healing through mutual support.
- Bi-Monthly Grief & Bereavement Book Club
Through thoughtfully selected readings, our book club invites participants to reflect on grief, healing, and hope. Each session includes discussion, support, and shared insight — helping participants feel less alone in their experience.
- Men's Shed Program
Our Men’s Shed offers a supportive, informal space for men who are grieving. Whether it’s working on small projects, chatting over coffee, or just spending time with others who “get it,” the Men’s Shed fosters healing through activity, camaraderie, and quiet companionship. It’s a place where men can grieve in their own way, without pressure or expectation.
- Referrals to Professional Counselling
For those needing more in-depth support, we can connect you with licensed grief and mental health counselors in the community who specialize in loss and bereavement. We’ll help ensure you’re not navigating this alone.
- Seasonal and Thematic Bereavement Workshops
We offer specialized workshops throughout the year to support individuals through difficult seasons and milestones, such as:
- “Holiday Help” – Guidance and support for navigating holidays without a loved one
- “Walking the Labyrinth” – A meditative, healing experience that fosters reflection and renewal
- Grief Resource Library
Our lending library includes a wide range of grief resources — both in print and digital formats. Whether you're looking for a book to help a child understand loss, or a personal guide to grief recovery, we have materials that can offer insight and comfort.
