Visiting Volunteers: Bringing Comfort, Connection, and Care
At Dundas County Hospice, our Visiting Volunteers are a lifeline for individuals and families facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness. With open hearts and listening ears, they offer more than just companionship — they bring comfort, dignity, and a sense of peace during one of life’s most difficult times.
Whether it's sharing a quiet moment, reading a favourite book, or simply being present, our volunteers help ease feelings of fear, loneliness, and isolation. Their gentle presence can be a source of strength — not only for the person who is ill, but also for the family members who are walking beside them.
Volunteers may also help with small tasks around the home or offer relief for caregivers, giving them time to rest, reflect, and gather strength for the journey ahead.
Each volunteer is carefully screened, including an OPP Vulnerable Sector Check and two reference checks. They complete the 30-hour Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) Volunteer Training Program, ensuring they are fully prepared to provide compassionate, respectful care.
