Caregiver Support Program

Caregiver Support

Caring for the Caregiver

At Dundas County Hospice, we recognize that caregiving is an act of love — but it can also be physically exhausting and emotionally overwhelming. When someone you care about is living with a life-limiting illness, the responsibility can weigh heavily on your shoulders. That’s why we’re here to support you, too.

Our Caregiver Support program provides a compassionate lifeline to those caring for a family member or loved one. Whether you’re navigating daily responsibilities, managing medical needs, or simply trying to hold everything together, you don’t have to do it alone.

What We Offer:

  • Caregivers Support Group
  • Join us for informal group support, led by our Director of Client Services Jackie Imrie RPN on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 6-8pm at the Winchester Public Library - Meeting Room - 547 St Lawrence St, Winchester. This group is open to all. Feel free to drop in to get info, ask questions, or just to have a coffee with people who understand.

  • Respite Services
  • Rest is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. We offer respite support so caregivers can take a break, recharge, and tend to their own well-being. Even a short pause can make a big difference in your ability to continue providing care with patience and compassion.

  • Training and Practical Support
  • Caregivers often find themselves learning on the go. We provide guidance and training that help build confidence in managing the practical aspects of caregiving — from understanding medication routines to ensuring comfort and safety at home.

  • Workshops and Education
  • We host workshops and offer educational materials on topics such as self-care, stress management, and navigating healthcare systems. These tools empower caregivers to advocate for their loved ones while also safeguarding their own health.

If you are a caregiver — or know someone who is — support is just a step away.
Please complete our referral form or email our Director of Client Services below. Let us help you care for yourself while you care for the one you love.

Join the Essential Caregiver Program

The Essential Caregiver Program (ECP) will enhance the involvement of caregivers throughout a person’s healthcare journey. The core objective is to identify and support caregivers as key members of the healthcare team. By recognizing caregivers as essential partners in care, healthcare organizations create a more compassionate and inclusive care environment while enhancing patient/resident/client experiences.
