Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) and Anti-Racism
Dundas County Hospice is committed to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), belonging and anti-racism for all members of our community including our clients, caregivers, volunteers, board members and staff.
Equity is the promotion of fairness and justice for each individual that considers historical, social, systemic, and structural issues that impact experience and individual needs.
Diversity is a measure of representation within a community or population that includes identity, background, lived experience, culture, and many more.
Inclusion is the creation of an environment where everyone shares a sense of belonging, is treated with respect, and is able to fully participate.
Belonging is when each individual is supported, respected, and valued for their identity and unique traits that make them different from each other. Belonging is feeling part of a collective that is co-created by diverse individuals that interact with members of the organization.
Anti-racism encompasses the perceptions, attitudes, policies, discourses, procedures, and practices of opposing and ending anti-Indigenous, anti-Black and other people of colour racisms as well as promoting racial equity, which requires incessantly recognizing power dynamic and addressing systemic and individual barriers that prevent opportunities for racialized members of our community to succeed.
Principles adopted by Dundas County Hospice:
1) Human diversity is a source of knowledge and strength;
2) In addition to being treated with dignity and respect, all people have the right to equitable access to our services and participation in their health care.
3) DCH will continue to envision an inclusive culture that is capable of change and relevancy to diverse populations through program development and staff and volunteer training and professional development.
4) DCH commits to take responsibility for EDI regarding the following groups and peoples within the community: Indigenous peoples (including First Nations, Inuit, *Métis peoples), racialized peoples including Black communities; Francophone communities; 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities, as well as the intersectionalities of these identities.
